When someone suggested this place for Sunday brunch I was pretty apprehensive since this isn't exactly a great area, being close to Penn Station, cheap tourist hotels, and vibrant street life. But I was very pleasantly surprised. It's a big place, very modern decor and an expensive vibe. A couple of tables in the window and the rest in the spacious back area. It was virtually empty when we arrived at 1pm on a Sunday, which caused me some concern, and the Brunch menu had only about 6 choices (the usual ones) but there was something for each of our party of 4's eccentric food needs. Service was very prompt and professional, and the food was really very good indeed, the servings much larger than I'm accustomed to for Sunday brunches. And yet very average prices. All around me I watched the staff going about their business with considerable care, paying attention to details like carrying out a bucket of ice for the bar but discreetly covering it with a starched cloth, something they didn't have to do, but did anyway. Whoever runs this place is paying attention, and it shows. For pretty much the same price you'd pay at a Greek diner you can get an excellent brunch, beautifully presented and prepared just right with quality fresh ingredients, and a really nice experience in a neighborhood not known for this kind of thing.

Great brunch at a reasonable price. All brunch orders come with a mimosa. I had perfectly scrambled eggs with cheddar cheese, hash brown potatoes, and fresh bacon. The restaurant is very bright and delightful with its play on a garden party with fresh single stem flowers on the wall and the green lighting against the all-white restaurant. Although it was below 20 degrees just sitting there for brunch made me feel warm. The basic Belgium waffle was kind of dry and rubbery, I should have taken the one they originally offered me topped with bananas and syrup. The coffee is decent. I dipped in here before heading back to the DMV, definitely not a destination, but if you want a substantial meal before heading back home, it's close to Penn station, and the bus lines, plus you get a little atmosphere.

We'd walk miles to get to Niles and indeed yesterday we did after traipsing all over Hells Kitchen, then the East side to see the Christmas (yea I said it - Christmas, not holiday tree) and on to the Murray Hill section of Manhattan and disappointment here, we headed west back to Penn station and decided to rest our weary dogs at Niles for a couple of delicious burgers and wait out the next train back to Jersey. Niles is a very cool (literally we briefly froze while seated at the bar whenever the front door was opened, which was often last night) but this trendy upscale bar is a great place to hang considering the alternatives at Penn station. Their excellent Irish bar tenders are a bonus.

I made a reservation for a group of 8 for a work lunch and we were seated in a great little side room where no one would mind how noisy we were. The decor is very nice and an overall good atmosphere. I had the turkey and Brie sandwich with the lobster bisque, and the food was delicious, but the portion was smaller than I was expecting. We also waited quite a while for our lunches to come out. We had a great time overall, though, and I would probably return for another work lunch.

Tiled floors. Green lighting. Very 80s. The lowlight was the chicken, pancetta bucatini. The chicken seemed to chunks of chicken roll; not chicken breast, but that cheap chicken roll that you buy at the deli. For $21, you don't expect processed meat. The rest of the food was okay, but not at all special. Too many ingredients and flavours in every course.

Niles is a funny little spot, no? For starters this place has a 80's vibe, which is fine, but not what I was expecting when I walked in. In fact it took me a minute to catch on to the [unintentional?] Miami Vice theme. I say this is because the place is primarily white. And while some may argue white is very modern and chic, Niles pairs it with mirror and chrome and has a wall illuminated with bright pink/purple lighting. Hello, 1985! White floors + white illuminated high-top tables with chrome accents, convex lighting fixtures made from colorful glass and an entire wall of mirrors make up the décor of Niles. Fortunately the majority of our group was born in the 80's so the style of this place didn't cause us to run for the door. And I'm so glad we didn't leave and look for another bar. We would have missed out on some seriously delicious food. 3/4 of the apps we ordered were great: Pico/Guac + Chips {$13} - The cilantro heavy guac was awesome... and the chips served with were super crunchy and seemed homemade. Buffalo Wings + Blue Cheese {$9} - The wings were average. Probably the least exciting of the night. Margherita Pizza {$13} - Chewy thin crust paired with a nice sweet sauce and just the right amount of cheese made this a pizza I would order again. Prosciutto Pizza {$15} - Ricotta + caramelized onions + baby arugula on a super thin crust = kinda of an amazing combo. Crunchy (crust) + salty (prosciutto) + creamy (ricotta) + sweet (onions) = a perfect bite, no? And the prosciutto pieces were huge! Oh, and the fellas behind the bar were mixing up some pretty amazing cocktails too. The Pomtini was perfect! Prices were a bit steep for what we got, even though the quality was there... I wish there was a Happy Hour menu... for $13 I think we were all expecting a little bit bigger scoop of the guac. And service was a bit slow. The tables were full, but plenty of seats open around the bar, so not sure what took the waiters so long... I probably won't rush back to Niles, the food is good but the 80's vibe is just confusing. Unless Don Johnson calls and wants to grab a drink, then I may reconsider.

I met a friend at Niles Restaurant yesterday. It's adjacent to the Affinia Hotel and right across the street from Penn Station/MSG and a few blocks from Macy's. What a great midtown west location that offers contemporary American cuisine. As I walked in, the atmosphere was crazy cool. This place is very modern, with cool colorful convex light fixtures that was dimly lit giving it that casual yet chic feel. It has two TV's on the wall for you to catch up on your sports while having a few drinks and appetizers. The bar was packed along with the few tables they had and people were standing against the wall. There was no space anywhere.....I guess this is the place to be before heading to Penn Station. There's also a dining area in the back. I had a beer and my friend has a glass of wine and the bill came up to $15. I figured as much due to the area. After the drink, I headed home. For all you who have a few minutes to pass before catching your train to wherever you are headed, this is a good place to check out.

Great food, nice environment, we didn't see our waiter hardly ever though. I still would recommend visiting though. The food was great. I got the Mushroom Risotto and my husband got the NY strip (it was amazing) Another guest we were with got the Duck and said it was dry and not very good. GREAT drinks at the bar!

Dinner with my girls at Niles the night before an Usher concert at MSG, which is directly across the street. This restaurant deserves four stars for location alone. Cool decor. White table cloths, cartoon art in the restrooms, shiny, pretty, painted up chandeliers hanging over the bar. My iceberg lettuce wedge to start was cool, crispy and delicious. Crumbled bacon topping was very crunchy and the blue cheese dressing was smooth and not too overwhelmingly sour in taste. My Cajun grilled Mahi Mahi was tender and tasty, although the jalapeño and lime butter drizzle didn't offer as much kick as I assumed it would. The bed of lobster hash for the Mahi Mahi was divine. Several chunks of lobster, peppers and tender red beans tossed and seasoned up right nicely. Scraped the plate on that dish. Corn relish was yummy but cooked to a texture that made it stick to my teeth so bad I felt the need to scrape between bites. I stole a few sweet potato fries off of my cousin's cheeseburger plate. So good I should've ordered a side to go with my fish. My only issue with Niles was the cold bread basket and brick hard, butter. I've read a few reviews complaining of high prices at Niles but four entrees, three apps and a mini bottle of Prosecco was just over one hundred dollars-a bill I thought was wonderfully low, for dinner on a Friday night in Manhattan.

I've frequented this restaurant before on a business meeting and ordered a pizza with a balsamic drizzle and arugula greens and tasted really good. But this time I was there for fine dining and pleasure and the food and presentation was very good. For an appetizer I ordered a fried calamari salad with pineapple and chopped scallion. Amazing flavor on this appetizer and I'm one who never orders appetizers. The main dish was a bit disappointing but the flavors were there. I ordered a mahi mahi which is a tender white fish that I found to be over cooked. My wife who was my dinner partner agreed with me on the fish. However, we enjoyed the prompt service and attention to my concerns and was comped by the server with dessert and an expresso which I enjoyed. Overall, Niles has a warm atmosphere and good service. Would definitely be returning.

I was visiting New York and had dinner at the restaurant inside the Affinia Manhattan hotel. The modern decor is not very warm but there is a spacious feel to the room. Their entrees stand out the most with creative dishes unique to the restaurant. I nearly inhaled the Sea Bass dish served over Paella style rice full of calamari and shrimp. I look forward to trying out the rest of the inspired menu.

Ate here on lark. Was great. Courses served comfortably paced. We had lobster bisque and french onion soups to start. Delicious. Then we had scallops and filet mignon... Cooked to order. I had the creme brulle cheesecake for dessert... Delicious. That's the picture of the missing cheesecake. Waiters?... Prompt and friendly . Definitely returning!

We were staying at the Affinia Hotel (yuck... long story... review soon...) and needed a place for a Xmas dinner... Since we just flew in and did not want to wander, this fit the bill. I thought the food was really good... especially the Shaved Brussels Sprouts Salad and my Scallops entree, which were cooked and seasoned perfectly. They did a nice job on the burger, too. Very juicy and delicious. The pretzel chicken was too bland and did not live up to the idea... which sounded fun and intriguing... Granted it was a holiday, but the service was very slow as well... Nice enough, but slow. The only benefit to staying at the hotel is that you get a discount at the restaurant... though I will NEVER stay at that hotel again, so there goes that. This restaurant was MAYBE a step above Olive Garden. The bar atmosphere was modern and trendy, but the dining room was just tired. I must say, the wait staff and hostess could not have been nicer. However, the food was awful.

Fabulous Manhattan in Manhattan. Love the lobster bisque with great chunks of the real thing. Seared scallops were tender with a lovely spicy salsa. It's a fun and lively place. Bartenders are easy on the eye and just as sweet.

Was expecting a lot more, We had a reservation and showed up way early, but we were seated right away, I guess cause no one was there. Menu is small. Started with the cheese plate, Skip it, wasn't so great, bit was a nice presentation. Wedge salad, lettuce was brown and it was obviously dressing from a jar. Crab cakes were mushy, scallops were pretty good. Chorizo slider were ok, little smaller than an slider I have had. For dinner, had the orange dusted salmon, it was fishy, but the flavor concept with the orange was good, I ate a few bites and left it, couldn't get the bad taste out of my mouth. Bread basket was good. The wine list is small. Our waiter and staff were great, always there and attentive to what we need, maybe cause the place was half full. The bar are was packed, which look very nice and inviting. Overall I won't go back, with so many other place in NYC.

Went here during fashion week with some friends after attending a show. The food was delicious!! Most of us had the Bucatini and loved it!! The atmosphere is pretty relaxed, and We honestly didnt expect the food to be so good. Very nice restaurant and the price was also affordable.

Went there for dinner before a concert and was happily surprised at the food, service and atmosphere. Nice bar area and lively. Had the crab cake which was good and the fillet mignon was tender and properly prepared. Their drink list was broad and the prickly pear and banana breeze were well made. Definitely go again.

I only went here because I was staying at the Affinia and I was far too exhausted to venture out. My martini was drinkable but they have some kind of fancy "fresh olives" that aren't brined. Dislike. The lobster bisque was not a bisque at all - more like some overdone lobster pieces in a flour thickened vegetable soup. Pretty gross. I actually sent my roasted brussels sprouts back because they came out as large, overdone, boiled, unseasoned, water filled sprouts that scared you as a child. Disgusting. Atmosphere - very modern, cool lighting fixtures and dim lights make it casual yet chic. Definitely fitting for a business meeting, but also suitable for friends/family get togethers. Restaurant was really chilly though.... Food- above average. I got a chicken chopped salad which was pretty good and my friend got the Irish burger which he enjoyed. Nothing mindblowing but it was decent and filling. Price- eh... I'd say it's a bit overpriced. A burger and fries, and a salad for $15 each?... But hey it's a business-y place so it's expected. Service- great. Food arrived really quickly and waiters checked in on us a couple of times. My friend actually noted that they really cared about our welfare! Overall it was a good experience and I'll prob be back especially because the location is so convenient.

My boyfriend and I were in town to celebrate our 2 year anniversary and wanted to go somewhere nice (by not NYC hundreds of dollars for a meal for 2 nice). Luckily we used Yelp- thanks YELPERS!- and we couldn't be MORE pleased!! The ambiance of this place is modern, without being so modern I feel like I'm on another planet! The LED lighting provided a nice soft light effect on the mostly white walls. It was not so dark you couldn't see your hand in front of your fact, but not so light that you felt like you were in a hospital. It was, the perfect blend! Casual yet chic! The wait staff was extremely helpful in making our selections, and was attentive, but not "up your ass" attentive. But let's get to the real deal- the food. I have pretty unique food allergies (not your standard nuts, etc.), so it's very important for me that the staff knows what is in the food, and can direct me if I order something I shouldn't. I never want a night out to be ruined by anaphylaxis. The staff here was well informed and provided good answers. The menu was varied enough that I, and my date, could each order a unique meal that went with our wine selection (Speaking of wine... the Rose was a little dryer than a typical Rose... not bad- just not what I was expecting). The food came out hot, and reasonably quickly, and every single ingredient was incredibly fresh! You can taste the difference. I had the rigatoni and he had the steak. Both of us raved about the food, and we had our leftovers the next day for breakfast (why not?) and it was still delicious! Well done, we will DEFINITELY come back the next time we are in town!

Free cocktails from Affinia hotel deal? Delayed flight? Exhausted from exploring NYC? Perfect time for the bar at Niles. Prosciutto, Avocado + Duck Roll (with a chili apricot jam and black olive vinaigrette) had lots of potential to be great but was served too cold. If you like a little heat, the jalapeno margarita is good, as was the blood orange mojito My favorite part of Niles were their colorful convex light fixtures!

There are so few places to eat around the madison square garden are that are no fast food. Niles was recommended by a friend whose relatives were coming into Penn Station from Philly for the afternoon. I was seated immediately and ordered coffee and the crispy chicken salad for lunch. There is a bar and sitting area as you walk in and further back there is additional seating. It is part of the Affinia hotel. I enjoyed the meal, would recommend and return.

Very pretty place, good bar scene, super convenient location to Penn Station and MSG. Our server was super-nice efficient. The owner even dropped by to say hello and bought us a round of drinks. A really good bread and bread flat basket--very important to me. So far it's sounding like a 5. So what happened? Well, I had the Chilean Sea Bass it was was pretty bad. It was a pretty looking dish in an orange colored sauce. But looks weren't everything. The sauce was tasteless and the sea bass tasted very "fishy". The lobster ravioli did have a hint of the vanilla bean reduction stated on the menu but also didn't taste like much. I did start with a very hearty and tasty onion soup. Everyone else who didn't order the sea bass, we were a party of 13, seemed OK with their food. Barbara also had the sea bass and agreed with me. Based on paragraphs 1 & 2, I 'd go back again but would stick to a less complex dish.

Update: I went back again, and it was just as amazing as the first time. However, the guy that took our orders didn't write it down, and because of that, he forgot our crab cakes. It didn't matter though, because we were stuffed anyway. I still love this place!

Love the convenience to the garden on such a cold night!! The drinks were fabulous and the food was great !! Pretzel honey chicken was divine, hubby had sea bass and son had steak... We loved all our dishes... Get the s'mores in the jar for dessert!! Staff was wonderful and we had plenty of time to catch billy joel across the street after arriving at 5:45... Relaxing dinner and lovely find .., will definitely go again ... Make a reservation as the restaurant was packed by 6pm!

Delicious. I needed to grab the Bolt Bus to DC which leaves from 33rd and 7th but was meeting a friend for lunch beforehand and we settled on Niles. Did I already say delicious? Delicious. I had the gazpacho (almost as fun to order as salsa) and the vegetable panini. I was so pleased with the quality of the ingredients, presentation, speed with which we were served, and price point. Will definitely continue to visit Niles as a pre-train or pre-bus meal. #yum

Met family member staying at the Affinia Manhattan for dinner at Niles. Bar noise level was like going down Niagara Falls in a tin barrel. Restaurant was better. Lots of white walls theatrically lit with colored lights. Crummy men's room. Service was good. Drinks were good, but seemed downsized. Food was hit and miss. Bucatini pasta with unchewable prosciutto pieces. Good rigatoni with tomato sauce. Good seafood pasta with big shrimp. Strange squash ravioli topped with pretzel pieces (no joke). Good desserts. Would I go back? Lets just say If you are staying at the Affinia you cant beat the convenient location.

The Niles has a nice atmosphere and the food is good not great. We have ordered room service and have enjoyed the breakfast and lunch entrees. I would only eat here if my driver was not available and/or it was raining. There are many restaurants in the city that are better. This is a great bar scene though. The restaurant is downstairs and the bar is upstairs.

DISGUSTED! I often dine here but a few days ago, I sat at the bar and while waiting for my food to be delivered, I observed Conor (name printed on my receipt), the bartender scratch the back of his head, dab his eyes with his fingers, wipe the sweat off his forehead, run his hands across his mouth and nose AND pick his ears (YES, you heard me...he picked the outside and the inside of his ears). Totally disgusting. I don't think he was aware of his bad habits. I wonder now what hygiene habits they practice in the kitchen. It is amazing to me that the managers are not aware of this. They need to train the staff better. All it takes is a bit of observation!

Breakfast this morning. They have a choice of a buffet for $20 or order off the menu. Buffet looked good but ordinary whereas the menu had some great omlettes and other choices. Went with the menu and had the Smoked Salmon platter. It was fresh and a generous portion of the Salmon. Good coffee and they leave the pot on your table so you don't have to wait for refills.

We were looking for a nice restaurant in close proximity to MSG and Penn Station. Niles fit the bill! Niles has a very nice bar scene, cool decor, nice dining room separated by a short staircase from the bar and simple menu with plenty of variety. Service was terrific and they let us sit at our table for hours without bothering us or trying to push us out. We had a variety of salads, onion soup and risotto and all were wonderful.

I come here for a breakfast work meeting once a month. I usually get an egg white omlette, which I had today and was very good. Since I've been coming here one of the highlights of the breakfast was the home potatoes on the side. So much so it was a topic for everyone who came to that meeting. Well today out came our plates and guess what was not on them? You got it, the delicious home fries. In their place was what seemed like what were previously frozen shredded hash browns. Too boot they were dry. Why oh why did you change the home potatoes Niles? Our table even joked that we may need to take our monthly breakfast elsewhere since the potatoes were gone. In addition, our service was not on par. I had to ask multiple times for refills on my water and coffee. Definitely a breakfast no-no Niles!

3.5 stars. I'm only taking stars off for the bad lighting during lunch! So the place is SO dimly lit and the blue neon lights just dont go with the vibe they are trying to create. I think they definitely need to up the ambience. The food however was greattt. The soups were rich and tasty, I has salmon and ratatouille which was also good and the salads my colleagues were having looked sumptuous. The bread basket in the beginning had some interesting finds too! Good place for a work lunch.

Food - Food was good not great. Your typical american style food but done in a midscale/business way. Price - A little pricey, but the norm for the area. Service - Service was good. Waiter was professional, busboys quick. Also the manager stopped by to ask how the meal was going. Location - The restaurant is in a hotel a block from Penn Station. Crowd - Typical business crowd. Summary - Niles is located right next to Penn Station so you will get the commuter/business crowd. The restaurant has an upscale look and the service was good. Food wont wow you, but I would recommend for a business lunch in Midtown.

Brought my client to Niles for lunch - we were immediately impressed by the decor. Service was very responsive and all the food that was brought to other tables looked great and smelled great. After perusing the menu, we both settled on the crab-stuffed shrimp. Neither of us were disappointed! When the dishes came out, my client pulled out her cell phone to take a picture - explaining that she was a food blogger. I relayed to her that my weapon of choice was Yelp and she nodded in acknowledgement. Portions were generous and the price is very reasonable. My dish came with four large shrimp stuffed with very savory crab filling. The dish also came with baby brocolli and a unique red grain rice pilaf. The tangy vanilla bean reduction offered a very interesting contrast to the traditional crab stuffing. Gotta say, the pilaf was delicious but not ideal in a meeting situation. We both struggled to speak between bites because the tiny red grain was getting stuck between our teeth. We finished off the meal with coffee, shook hands and left satisfied. A productive meeting and a satisfying meal. I'll try coming back with a more casual mindset but Niles is definitely a place I'd revisit.

I feel like I have been on the road forever. I had dinner here tonight and it seemed strange without the Big East Tournament crowd. The vibrant bar was a little slow on this Mother's Day evening. The dining hall is very sleek. I had some great seafood ravioli and crab soup. It was outstanding even by Maryland standards. I ate here last night with my girlfriend and brother. We had a 10pm reservation but arrived at 930 and we were seated immediately. The restaurant's decor was very pretty; it was all white with up-lighting around the room. For an appetizer we shared the sea scallops and the margarita pizza. I ate the pretzel-crusted chicken, which was very good. My girlfriend had the Chilean sea bass that she enjoyed. My brother had the filet and it was cooked perfect. We shared the gelato sampler and the chocolate nut torta for desert. The wait staff was very attentive and was always ready to help. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed the dinner and would definitely be going back.

I wished we could've stayed longer but we were pressed for time. I ordered the crab cakes, which were yummy. Servers were nice and worked w/ us regarding time w/ no issues. Other meals at the table were burger and fries, salad, etc...friends said it was pretty good. The plate/serving was huge, so it looks like they give you more than enough food. I will be back just to test it out at least 1 more time.

Fun posh New York restaurant/bar. Everything is very white, and lit up in purple and pink. I didn't eat here, just passed through the dining room on my way to the ladies room. Directly across 7th Ave from Madison Square Garden, Nile's is an upscale and visually attractive after work gathering spot. Their beer selection is a bit limited, but they're always cold. A full menu is available, breakfast, lunch and dinner, but the onion soup on a cold night and small plates are very good. Their bar pizza is clearly a notch above, and the dates wrapped in prosciutto is an excellent nibble. Nile's begins filling-up by 5:30, and can be shoulder-to-shoulder packed a few minutes later. Noise levels can get high, as well. The bartenders are definitely friendly and efficient. A fun stop before catching a train or a game across the street.

A modern and sleek place to dine in midtown. We arrived for lunch and were seated in the back of the restaurant. The place was just about at capacity and there was an energetic vibe. Our waiter showed up immediately to take drink orders. Our orders were taken and I decided to add a salad to my order, somehow they ended up swapping my actual order for the salad, so I didn't get my salad with everyone else and got my entree after everyone else. It was a bit annoying. Two of us ordered burgers. The burgers were fairly large in size and were served with a large portion of nice crispy fries. The burgers were good, but definitely not the best in the city. Someone else got the Stuffed Jumbo Gulf Shrimp that came with a side of red grain pilaf. I was told the dish was quite bland. The fourth entree was the Almond-Crusted Chicken with a honey mustard glaze, sugar snap peas and sweet potato cakes; which was very good. On to dessert. Their coffee was decent a regular coffee is served in a little pot so you actually get 2 cups served at once, which I thought was great. I opted for the double chocolate bundt cake. It was a dark chocolate spongy type bundt that was covered with hot fudge. Yum! Really good, I was so full and it was hard to stop eating it. Other desserts included Ciao Bella gelato, which is always good; creme brulee cheesecake which I was told was great and a chocolate mousse, which was just OK. There were some hit and miss dishes, but overall I think you can have a somewhat enjoyable lunch, especially if you are looking for someplace with a modern flair in the area.

Not a great experience. The place was freezing and we were NOT sitting near doors; our breakfast took over 20 minutes and the place only had a few other customers; we were not given a bread basket, only realized later they gave them to everyone but us; the waiter was not attentive and we had to flag down for more drinks; the french toast was very dry (like toast) and was not served with butter, so had to request; and the food was a bit cold. However, the fries were pretty good and it was a nice roomy restaurant. I should have gone to Panera across the street and saved $$$ on breakfast.

This is a great spot for dinner before a concert at MSG. My husband and I went before going to see Alicia Keys. He ordered the lobster bisque and crab cakes. His only complaint was that he would have liked a huge bowl of the bisque! I ordered the basic green salad which was delicious with little tidbits of goodies & dressing. Also the tomato & basil pizza that had great thin crust, excellent sauce flavor, and yummy cheese. I only wished for more basil; definitely not enough. Two weeks into my current job (5 years ago), a group of then unmarried, kidless colleagues, who I'm pretty sure should have been paying rent at Niles, took me with them one night. To sum up, after that night I swore off shots FOREVER. I vaguely remember being driven home (thank GOD). Other than that, my recollection of the night is hazy. That group has since dispersed to the far reaches of Connecticut and Westchester, popped out some kids, and stopped going out regularly. (Note: I, for one, am still up for it. Just FYI, FWIW.) Niles remains the go-to place on the rare occasion when coworkers do grab a quick one before rushing home, mainly because they are unwilling to stray too far from Penn Station. The beer selection is fine if you're okay with Bass, Stella and Amstel Light. If that does not constitute a good beer selection in your book, you should probably go to Stout's instead (2 blocks away). The red wine is not too bad and the bartenders often give a generous pour. So, after reading all that, you probably have a picture in your head what this place is like. Well, the thing is, during the day, Niles is a completely different animal. You wouldn't even recognize it. The bar and dining area are a business lunch mecca. I have seen senior execs from my company with clients in there at lunchtime, dudes who would never, ever be seen there at happy hour with the proles. My mother, who is 71 and who comes to NYC once a quarter on business with the Garden Club of America, requests that we lunch at Niles every single time she's here. She adores it! And as far as I've been able to surmise, Niles is truly the best bet for taking your 71-year-old mother to lunch in this neighborhood. Just get her out of there before happy hour begins.

The restaurant associated with the Affinia Manhattan hotel that we stayed at, this place was quite good. For dinner, we were quite full from a late lunch, so we came here and sat at the bar. The restaurant had a cool blue lighting for the decor. I got a champagne mix with chambord, and they were certainly not stingy with that! The champagne itself was not so great, but I do enjoy chambord, so that was good. The crabcake we ordered was not bad. It could do with larger chunks of crab. The salad it came with was well coated with a good dressing. We came again in the morning for the breakfast buffet, which was quite good! The fruit selection was nice, and tasty, but none of the fruits were in season.

Definitely a busy spot. There's a lot of people stopping by after work grabbing a drink at the very large bar. Its not far from Penn station , actually its right across the street so I suppose a busy scene is expected. Great food, phenomenal drinks, wonderful people. I definitely made this a regular spot. I needed a place to take my family when they came to visit. It needed to be close to Penn Station, and since I was treating, it couldn't cost an arm and a leg! Niles looks just like a bar from the street (right on 7th ave), but it's got a great restaurant behind the bar. We went for brunch on a Saturday around 1PM, and had no problem being seated right away. The wait staff was very friendly and attentive. Our party got everything from french toast (crusted with granola, yum!), to a burger to omelettes and everyone was very happy with it. The complimentary mimosas were most appreciated as well. The decor was casual and relaxing, but still nice enough to feel fancy. The brunch ended up costing us less than $100 for six people, and that included a nice tip for the great service. I would definitely recommend Niles to anyone looking to go to a nice place in the area, whether for just a drink or for a whole meal.

I enjoyed Niles and it's proximity to Madison Sq Garden is fantastic. I had a Jalapeno Margarita (spicy and good). I ordered the grilled sea bass w/roasted brussel sprouts and mashed potato and it was excellent. The brussel sprouts were a bit over seasoned but it balanced w/the meal. My friend ordered the red snapper and said it was excellent. Again, it has a great ambiance for a date at the back tables, or the bar is great to meet up with friends after work. They have a side round room big enough for 10-12 people with caricatures of all of the NYC Mayors. Cool place right next to the Affinia Hotel.

I've been here several times on business lunches. I have never been disappointed. The location is very convenient to Penn Station and a large step above other lunch spots in the area. The service is attentive, courteous and knowledgable. The food is well prepared and presented. The portions are generous and the price is right. This is not a dark, manly steak house or pub but for good food at a fair price this the place.

Dined here for a business lunch. Was impressed by the clean/simple decor, and there was no issue with lighting. I thought it was very bright and white, and surprisingly large with a nice big bar. I ordered a shrimp entree salad that was very boring and lacked flavor. The associates I was dining with enjoyed their meals enough. Service was fine. It was very quick, and overall, the dining expererience was just boring. We were in and out within an hour, so it seems to be a good work lunch spot. If you have to dine in this area, I would recommend you give it a try. Maybe other items on the menu are more interesting. It is not a place I would go out of my way to go to, though.

Niles NYC is the restaurant/bar/lounge on the ground floor of the Affinia Manhattan, and I entertained here two of the four nights I stayed there last fall. Review of the hotel can be found separately... Let's talk Manhattan Martinis. Have you found any GREAT LOCATIONS with a FABULOUS ATMOSPHERE and GORGEOUS FOOD offering MARTINIS for UNDER $10??? Well here, they are nearly all under $10 somehow. And let me tell you, they make a KILLER Cosmo. I also sampled a lovely bellini with champagne, peach schnapps and blood orange puree that was like no other drink I have had since. INCLUDING fabulous Bellinis all over Italy and France. Tried the bar snack pizzas - both were yummy! Ther Margherita with just tomatoes & basil was simple but perfectly prepared & presented. Even better was the Rustic Pizza: "artichokes, roasted tomatoes, kalamata olives and caramelized onions on rustic crust" - it was crispy, flavourful, perfect late-night snack! Went for lunch only once, but I tried: the Mesclun Salad: "grape tomatoes, edamame, cucumbers, pepitas and crispy onions with lemon herb vinaigrette" and the lobster bisque. Again, not disappointed! I would visit here again, regardless of which hotel I'm staying at!

I want to like this place with the late 90's south beach decor. This for me has always been a go-to when seeing a concert at the garden however this last trip here left me very disapointed! The meal was started with an oaky chardone. For appitizers we ordered two french ounion soups and a margharita pizza. The soups were "ok", nothing special. The pizza which should have been called a bar pie, Not a margharitta was dry and boring. For our entrees we ordreed the lamb and the filet mignon. The Lamb was fatty and tough, The filet Mignon although cooked prefect was Medium Rare and Dry at the same time. For desert I ordered the Lemon marscapone cake and my parner ordred the creme brule cheese cake. Deserts were great! Overall, not worth the money. I think I will save Niles for Pre-drinks before going to the Garden and have dinner elsewhere.

Needed a new brunch place before I dropped off my nephew at Penn Station and remembered reading about Niles! Popped in today and must admit that we had a great dining experience. The decor is also very modern and the dining room is a nice size, with the tables not being on top of each other. We were seated right away, and our waiter Luis appeared within minutes to take our drink orders. My nephew ordered the french toast and said it was the best french toast he's ever had. I ordered the eggs benedict with Canadian bacon which was also delicious, along with little squared potatoes. Prices were very reasonable. Our waiter Luis was great and very attentive. I will definitely return and am looking forward to trying out the Niles bar next before the Furthur show in November at MSG! :)

Niles is directly next door to the main entrance of the Affinia Hotel. First impression: GORGEOUS bar. I can't believe I haven't been to this place sooner being so close to my office. My co-workers and I are always looking for a new place to sit down and grab lunch. Niles is huge and sleek, yet cozy. The restaurant can accommodate large or small groups and they also have private areas tucked to the side. The front is the gorgeous bar. Everything is white and clean with floral accents on the walls and cool paintings and pictures on the wall. They offer seating at the bar or small tables on the sides. When you continue to the back, it's a large seating area with large tables and small tables. It's a great change from the Irish pub spots in the area that we are used to visiting at lunchtime. The prices were ridiculously affordable. They bring out a bread basket with an assorted variety of breads. I had a glass of Sauv Blanc and the Grilled Vegetable Panini (marinated eggplant, zucchini, portobello mushroom, arugula, mozz, tomato pesto spread on wheat berry bread- $13). It comes with your choice of fries, sweet potato fries or salad. My friend had Roast Turkey Club with fries- $12 and a glass of red wine. Her club had a little tiny piece of bacon, which was kind of disappointing. They have five entree salad choices and four other sandwich choices. Also for lunch, there's five different kinds of burgers or two different pizzas. If you're really hungry then they offer a bunch of entrees that range from pasta and seafood dishes as well as steaks. Awesome variety and great prices. I can really see this place getting packed out before events at MSG or people killing time before their trains at Penn Station. I will absolutely return.

In the area for lunch, so we stopped by Niles. It was midweek and the dining room was half full. Our waiter was attentive and our glasses never got too low. We both tried the special of the day, grilled sirloin steak with mashed potatoes and asparagus. The sirloin was a bit fatty, but had a nice outer edge with a crunch. The potatoes were lackluster. Not enough butter or cream cheese, etc. They tasted simply starchy. The asparagus was good. It was an ambitious choice for lunch since it was so much food, but with it being January it felt good to "carb" up. Alright ambiance, ambivalent to the whole experience. If you were going to Penn Station or MSG the location would be convenient. Edit: Due to our work location being so close to Niles we went again. I ordered the Irish Cheddar Cheeseburger. It was alright, but the fries were horrible. Big, squishy, and looked like they bought the biggest bag of Oreida knock-offs they could.

I had a breakfast meeting here with a client, at his suggestion. If it were the 80's, this place would be very trendy. Unfortunately, it's not the 80's. The service was awful. Nearly impossible to get the waiter's attention and I had to ask for everything twice. Even the water and coffee guys were terrible. I sat down and asked for iced coffee. The waiter replied, "iced coffee?" "Yes, thank you." Someone brought me a hot coffee. I asked again for iced coffee and guy looked at like I had pissed on his shoes. I ordered the blueberry pancskes, thinking i would give myself a treat. I think they were $12.00. They were awful. Would definitely not recommend this place to anyone.

The good part of Niles is that they have great drinks, reasonably priced, nice decor, and the bartenders will take care of you, especially if you are a regular. However, the negative is that the place is right near Penn Station and can get overrun with people really quickly after work. Also, if there is an event at MSG, there will be a ton of people that go there. If you are in the area, it is definitely worth checking out, especially if you are looking to grab a drink, but be warned, it can become crowded very quickly.

This is a glimmer of civilization in the heart of what can be a pretty icky neighborhood. The drinks and menu offer a nice, relatively upscale (again, consider the neighborhood) and surprisingly reasonably priced given the location. The food is good to very good, and juxtaposed to the nearby alternatives, it can be considered gourmet. Dining room service is excellent. The bar is pretty nice, but it does get very busy after 5 pm.

Fantastic dinner. I had the macadamia-crusted salmon & my boyfriend had the duck with cherry sauce. We also split the wedge salad. Everything was delicious, hot and served quickly. We ordered drinks with dinner and they were very strong. I had the pomegranate martini & it tasted like pure vodka...a good thing for some, but I wasn't looking to catch a buzz. We were staying in the hotel after an event at MSG, so decided to eat breakfast there as well. My boyfriend was drooling over the pictures of the blueberry stuffed French toast and we had seen the Chef present it on the local news Station. It was featured with 2 inches of cream cheese mixed with blueberries and strawberries between the slices. Unfortunately, when it arrived, there was a thin smear of blue cream cheese between the slices and a few blueberries on the side. What a let down! It wasn't "stuffed" at all. I had the Irish omelette, which was very good, but the hash browns were nothing special...they could have been frozen shredded for that matter. I gave it a 4 because the dinner was fantastic, but ambience is a strange mis of neon colored lights.

You see, I work for a publisher near Penn Station and Niles is the unofficial "nice place" to grab a happy hour drink or get fired by your boss. Of course, I went there for a completely different reason. To tell my boss I was quitting. Whew! Beat them to the punch ;-) When compared to the rest of the restaurants in this neighborhood (Hell-sea, Lower Midtown West, No-sea -- whatever) this place ranks high. Otherwise, its another addition to the mediocre list. The service was nice, the meal was $20-$30 a person, and the atmosphere was clean and modern. It's also in the lobby of the Affinia Hotel. So, if you don't mind running into bridge-and-tunnel folk, you're good.

Great option if you're in the area and have to catch a train from Penn Station since it's a block away. Brunch menu costs $13-$18 depending on what you order and includes a breakfast drink of choice (bloody mary, mimosa, juice, etc.). I liked how they give you a basket of muffins, croissants and crackers to start. They also take reservations through opentable.com , however the room was about half full when we left around 1pm. Clean, attentive service and decent food.

Ahhh, Niles.... like my cat, you're always there in the background - or something like that. I travel on business a LOT - and while home is in LA, work is in NYC, and the company hotel is the Affinia. Which just happens to be the hotel that Niles is located in. So, you might say that I've eaten here a few times. Or a few million - room service at 11 PM after a long work slog counts, right? Niles is decent food in an area not particularly known for good eats - it's just catty-corner to MSG and Penn Station, so it's great for pre / post event get-togethers or commuting. As for the vibe - the bar is separate from the restaurant area and clientele is variable depending on what's happening at the Garden. Let's just say that Wrestling Live night was *interesting*. The dining area is not the most inspiring, being a white box - I think they went for a modern look but something got lost along the way. Drinks are decent - nothing special but the bartenders are pretty cool and on a slow night they know when to stay and chat (on a good work day) and when to scram because all I really want to do is stare into my G&T and brood about work or a project or being on the road.... I think I've tried nearly everything on the room service menu, and most things on the regular menu. The Asian Chicken salad is particularly good - fresh veggies and canned orange slices with balsamic dressing actually work well together. Overall, not a bad pick for a backup restaurant - but if you're looking for special, keep movin' folks.

Located opposite Penn station, it's a classy joint, but you don't have to be dressed up to the nines, many people were in relaxed, yet smart clothes. An Irish guy, Peter, was the really friendly bar manager. And our bartender was a cute guy named Jamie. Drinks were reasonably priced so I stuck to cocktailsnot that we had to fork out for many as guys kept telling Jamie to make whatever we wanted and they'd pay!! In fact, Jamie and Peter heard from my friend that it was my birthday and gave me a free cocktail and piece of chocolate fudge cake with Happy Birthday written on. It was such a surprise and SOO sweet! There's a restaurant instead too, though unfortunately we didn't get round to trying the food. If I was to go back to New York I'd definately head back to Niles, you're guaranteed the time of your life!

There's always some beers nuts available and there's space from the wall to the bar that it's not really crowded if you decide to get your drink and step aside to talk to the gang. In the area for lunch, so we stopped by Niles. It was midweek and the dining room was half full. Our waiter was attentive and our glasses never got too low. We both tried the special of the day, grilled sirloin steak with mashed potatoes and asparagus. The sirloin was a bit fatty, but had a nice outer edge with a crunch. The potatoes were lackluster. Not enough butter or cream cheese, etc. They tasted simply starchy. The asparagus was good. It was an ambitious choice for lunch since it was so much food, but with it being January it felt good to "carb" up. Alright ambiance, ambivalent to the whole experience. If you were going to Penn Station or MSG the location would be convenient. Edit: Due to our work location being so close to Niles we went again. I ordered the Irish Cheddar Cheeseburger. It was alright, but the fries were horrible. Big, squishy, and looked like they bought the biggest bag of Oreida knock-offs they could.

Excellent scallops served with bacon braised cabbage OMG so delicious! Perfect portioning and food came out very fast with very attentive waiters. I will definitely be back on my next trip to NYC! This is a great spot for dinner before a concert at MSG. My husband and I went before going to see Alicia Keys. He ordered the lobster bisque and crab cakes. His only complaint was that he would have liked a huge bowl of the bisque! I ordered the basic green salad which was delicious with little tidbits of goodies & dressing. Also the tomato & basil pizza that had great thin crust, excellent sauce flavor, and yummy cheese. I only wished for more basil; definitely not enough. Who would have thought on 31th street, this hidden gem in one of the busiest parts of the city. Walked in and was immediately impressed with the savvy decor. Went here for brunch with a friend on lazy Sunday. Friendly staff seated me write away. I never feel rushed to get through my meal. The meal was delicious, and a simple thing like the coffee there was amazing. This place will be a regular brunch spot!

I had a breakfast meeting here with a client, at his suggestion. If it were the 80's, this place would be very trendy. Unfortunately, it's not the 80's. The service was awful. Nearly impossible to get the waiter's attention and I had to ask for everything twice. Even the water and coffee guys were terrible. I sat down and asked for iced coffee. The waiter replied, "iced coffee?" "Yes, thank you." Someone brought me a hot coffee. I asked again for iced coffee and guy looked at like I had pissed on his shoes. I ordered the blueberry pancskes, thinking i would give myself a treat. I think they were $12.00. They were awful. Would definitely not recommend this place to anyone.

The good part of Niles is that they have great drinks, reasonably priced, nice decor, and the bartenders will take care of you, especially if you are a regular. However, the negative is that the place is right near Penn Station and can get overrun with people really quickly after work. Also, if there is an event at MSG, there will be a ton of people that go there. If you are in the area, it is definitely worth checking out, especially if you are looking to grab a drink, but be warned, it can become crowded very quickly.

This is a glimmer of civilization in the heart of what can be a pretty icky neighborhood. The drinks and menu offer a nice, relatively upscale (again, consider the neighborhood) and surprisingly reasonably priced given the location. The food is good to very good, and juxtaposed to the nearby alternatives, it can be considered gourmet. Dining room service is excellent. The bar is pretty nice, but it does get very busy after 5 pm.

Fantastic dinner. I had the macadamia-crusted salmon & my boyfriend had the duck with cherry sauce. We also split the wedge salad. Everything was delicious, hot and served quickly. We ordered drinks with dinner and they were very strong. I had the pomegranate martini & it tasted like pure vodka...a good thing for some, but I wasn't looking to catch a buzz. We were staying in the hotel after an event at MSG, so decided to eat breakfast there as well. My boyfriend was drooling over the pictures of the blueberry stuffed French toast and we had seen the Chef present it on the local news Station. It was featured with 2 inches of cream cheese mixed with blueberries and strawberries between the slices. Unfortunately, when it arrived, there was a thin smear of blue cream cheese between the slices and a few blueberries on the side. What a let down! It wasn't "stuffed" at all. I had the Irish omelette, which was very good, but the hash browns were nothing special...they could have been frozen shredded for that matter. I gave it a 4 because the dinner was fantastic, but ambience is a strange mis of neon colored lights.

I met a few of the girls here from pre Ranger game cocktails. For a Monday night this place was busy with business folk and guests staying at the hotel. Cocktail service was pretty slow. My Cosmo was not the greatest. Next time I'll be heading to one of the horse bars down the block or Stout on 33rd.

You see, I work for a publisher near Penn Station and Niles is the unofficial "nice place" to grab a happy hour drink or get fired by your boss. Of course, I went there for a completely different reason. To tell my boss I was quitting. Whew! Beat them to the punch ;-) When compared to the rest of the restaurants in this neighborhood (Hell-sea, Lower Midtown West, No-sea -- whatever) this place ranks high. Otherwise, its another addition to the mediocre list. The service was nice, the meal was $20-$30 a person, and the atmosphere was clean and modern. It's also in the lobby of the Affinia Hotel. So, if you don't mind running into bridge-and-tunnel folk, you're good.

Great option if you're in the area and have to catch a train from Penn Station since it's a block away. Brunch menu costs $13-$18 depending on what you order and includes a breakfast drink of choice (bloody mary, mimosa, juice, etc.). I liked how they give you a basket of muffins, croissants and crackers to start. They also take reservations through opentable.com , however the room was about half full when we left around 1pm. Clean, attentive service and decent food.

Ahhh, Niles.... like my cat, you're always there in the background - or something like that. I travel on business a LOT - and while home is in LA, work is in NYC, and the company hotel is the Affinia. Which just happens to be the hotel that Niles is located in. So, you might say that I've eaten here a few times. Or a few million - room service at 11 PM after a long work slog counts, right? Niles is decent food in an area not particularly known for good eats - it's just catty-corner to MSG and Penn Station, so it's great for pre / post event get-togethers or commuting. As for the vibe - the bar is separate from the restaurant area and clientele is variable depending on what's happening at the Garden. Let's just say that Wrestling Live night was *interesting*. The dining area is not the most inspiring, being a white box - I think they went for a modern look but something got lost along the way. Drinks are decent - nothing special but the bartenders are pretty cool and on a slow night they know when to stay and chat (on a good work day) and when to scram because all I really want to do is stare into my G&T and brood about work or a project or being on the road.... I think I've tried nearly everything on the room service menu, and most things on the regular menu. The Asian Chicken salad is particularly good - fresh veggies and canned orange slices with balsamic dressing actually work well together. Overall, not a bad pick for a backup restaurant - but if you're looking for special, keep movin' folks.

When someone suggested this place for Sunday brunch I was pretty apprehensive since this isn't exactly a great area, being close to Penn Station, cheap tourist hotels, and vibrant street life. But I was very pleasantly surprised. It's a big place, very modern decor and an expensive vibe. A couple of tables in the window and the rest in the spacious back area. It was virtually empty when we arrived at 1pm on a Sunday, which caused me some concern, and the Brunch menu had only about 6 choices (the usual ones) but there was something for each of our party of 4's eccentric food needs. Service was very prompt and professional, and the food was really very good indeed, the servings much larger than I'm accustomed to for Sunday brunches. And yet very average prices. All around me I watched the staff going about their business with considerable care, paying attention to details like carrying out a bucket of ice for the bar but discreetly covering it with a starched cloth, something they didn't have to do, but did anyway. Whoever runs this place is paying attention, and it shows. For pretty much the same price you'd pay at a Greek diner you can get an excellent brunch, beautifully presented and prepared just right with quality fresh ingredients, and a really nice experience in a neighborhood not known for this kind of thing.

Great brunch at a reasonable price. All brunch orders come with a mimosa. I had perfectly scrambled eggs with cheddar cheese, hash brown potatoes, and fresh bacon. The restaurant is very bright and delightful with its play on a garden party with fresh single stem flowers on the wall and the green lighting against the all-white restaurant. Although it was below 20 degrees just sitting there for brunch made me feel warm. The basic Belgium waffle was kind of dry and rubbery, I should have taken the one they originally offered me topped with bananas and syrup. The coffee is decent. I dipped in here before heading back to the DMV, definitely not a destination, but if you want a substantial meal before heading back home, it's close to Penn station, and the bus lines, plus you get a little atmosphere.

We'd walk miles to get to Niles and indeed yesterday we did after traipsing all over Hells Kitchen, then the East side to see the Christmas (yea I said it - Christmas, not holiday tree) and on to the Murray Hill section of Manhattan and disappointment here, we headed west back to Penn station and decided to rest our weary dogs at Niles for a couple of delicious burgers and wait out the next train back to Jersey. Niles is a very cool (literally we briefly froze while seated at the bar whenever the front door was opened, which was often last night) but this trendy upscale bar is a great place to hang considering the alternatives at Penn station. Their excellent Irish bar tenders are a bonus.

We had a great time overall, though, and I would probably return for another work lunch.

Niles is a funny little spot, no? For starters this place has a 80's vibe, which is fine, but not what I was expecting when I walked in. In fact it took me a minute to catch on to the [unintentional?] Miami Vice theme. I say this is because the place is primarily white. And while some may argue white is very modern and chic, Niles pairs it with mirror and chrome and has a wall illuminated with bright pink/purple lighting. Hello, 1985! White floors + white illuminated high-top tables with chrome accents, convex lighting fixtures made from colorful glass and an entire wall of mirrors make up the décor of Niles. Fortunately the majority of our group was born in the 80's so the style of this place didn't cause us to run for the door. And I'm so glad we didn't leave and look for another bar. We would have missed out on some seriously delicious food. 3/4 of the apps we ordered were great: Pico/Guac + Chips {$13} - The cilantro heavy guac was awesome... and the chips served with were super crunchy and seemed homemade. Buffalo Wings + Blue Cheese {$9} - The wings were average. Probably the least exciting of the night. Margherita Pizza {$13} - Chewy thin crust paired with a nice sweet sauce and just the right amount of cheese made this a pizza I would order again. Prosciutto Pizza {$15} - Ricotta + caramelized onions + baby arugula on a super thin crust = kinda of an amazing combo. Crunchy (crust) + salty (prosciutto) + creamy (ricotta) + sweet (onions) = a perfect bite, no? And the prosciutto pieces were huge! Oh, and the fellas behind the bar were mixing up some pretty amazing cocktails too. The Pomtini was perfect! Prices were a bit steep for what we got, even though the quality was there... I wish there was a Happy Hour menu... for $13 I think we were all expecting a little bit bigger scoop of the guac. And service was a bit slow. The tables were full, but plenty of seats open around the bar, so not sure what took the waiters so long... I probably won't rush back to Niles, the food is good but the 80's vibe is just confusing. Unless Don Johnson calls and wants to grab a drink, then I may reconsider.

I met a friend at Niles Restaurant yesterday. It's adjacent to the Affinia Hotel and right across the street from Penn Station/MSG and a few blocks from Macy's. What a great midtown west location that offers contemporary American cuisine. As I walked in, the atmosphere was crazy cool. This place is very modern, with cool colorful convex light fixtures that was dimly lit giving it that casual yet chic feel. It has two TV's on the wall for you to catch up on your sports while having a few drinks and appetizers. The bar was packed along with the few tables they had and people were standing against the wall. There was no space anywhere.....I guess this is the place to be before heading to Penn Station. There's also a dining area in the back. I had a beer and my friend has a glass of wine and the bill came up to $15. I figured as much due to the area. After the drink, I headed home. For all you who have a few minutes to pass before catching your train to wherever you are headed, this is a good place to check out.

Dinner with my girls at Niles the night before an Usher concert at MSG, which is directly across the street. This restaurant deserves four stars for location alone. Cool decor. White table cloths, cartoon art in the restrooms, shiny, pretty, painted up chandeliers hanging over the bar. My iceberg lettuce wedge to start was cool, crispy and delicious. Crumbled bacon topping was very crunchy and the blue cheese dressing was smooth and not too overwhelmingly sour in taste. My Cajun grilled Mahi Mahi was tender and tasty, although the jalapeño and lime butter drizzle didn't offer as much kick as I assumed it would. The bed of lobster hash for the Mahi Mahi was divine. Several chunks of lobster, peppers and tender red beans tossed and seasoned up right nicely. Scraped the plate on that dish. Corn relish was yummy but cooked to a texture that made it stick to my teeth so bad I felt the need to scrape between bites. I stole a few sweet potato fries off of my cousin's cheeseburger plate. So good I should've ordered a side to go with my fish. My only issue with Niles was the cold bread basket and brick hard, butter. I've read a few reviews complaining of high prices at Niles but four entrees, three apps and a mini bottle of Prosecco was just over one hundred dollars-a bill I thought was wonderfully low, for dinner on a Friday night in Manhattan.

I've frequented this restaurant before on a business meeting and ordered a pizza with a balsamic drizzle and arugula greens and tasted really good. But this time I was there for fine dining and pleasure and the food and presentation was very good. For an appetizer I ordered a fried calamari salad with pineapple and chopped scallion. Amazing flavor on this appetizer and I'm one who never orders appetizers. The main dish was a bit disappointing but the flavors were there. I ordered a mahi mahi which is a tender white fish that I found to be over cooked. My wife who was my dinner partner agreed with me on the fish. However, we enjoyed the prompt service and attention to my concerns and was comped by the server with dessert and an expresso which I enjoyed. Overall, Niles has a warm atmosphere and good service. Would definitely be returning.

I was visiting New York and had dinner at the restaurant inside the Affinia Manhattan hotel. The modern decor is not very warm but there is a spacious feel to the room. Their entrees stand out the most with creative dishes unique to the restaurant. I nearly inhaled the Sea Bass dish served over Paella style rice full of calamari and shrimp. I look forward to trying out the rest of the inspired menu.

We were staying at the Affinia Hotel (yuck... long story... review soon...) and needed a place for a Xmas dinner... Since we just flew in and did not want to wander, this fit the bill. I thought the food was really good... especially the Shaved Brussels Sprouts Salad and my Scallops entree, which were cooked and seasoned perfectly. They did a nice job on the burger, too. Very juicy and delicious. The pretzel chicken was too bland and did not live up to the idea... which sounded fun and intriguing... Granted it was a holiday, but the service was very slow as well... Nice enough, but slow. The only benefit to staying at the hotel is that you get a discount at the restaurant... though I will NEVER stay at that hotel again, so there goes that. Started with the cheese plate, Skip it, wasn't so great, bit was a nice presentation. Wedge salad, lettuce was brown and it was obviously dressing from a jar. Crab cakes were mushy, scallops were pretty good. Chorizo slider were ok, little smaller than an slider I have had. For dinner, had the orange dusted salmon, it was fishy, but the flavor concept with the orange was good, I ate a few bites and left it, couldn't get the bad taste out of my mouth. Bread basket was good. The wine list is small. Our waiter and staff were great, always there and attentive to what we need, maybe cause the place was half full. The bar are was packed, which look very nice and inviting. Overall I won't go back, with so many other place in NYC.

Went there for dinner before a concert and was happily surprised at the food, service and atmosphere. Nice bar area and lively. Had the crab cake which was good and the fillet mignon was tender and properly prepared. Their drink list was broad and the prickly pear and banana breeze were well made. Definitely go again.

I only went here because I was staying at the Affinia and I was far too exhausted to venture out. My martini was drinkable but they have some kind of fancy "fresh olives" that aren't brined. Dislike. The lobster bisque was not a bisque at all - more like some overdone lobster pieces in a flour thickened vegetable soup. Pretty gross. I actually sent my roasted brussels sprouts back because they came out as large, overdone, boiled, unseasoned, water filled sprouts that scared you as a child. Disgusting. Atmosphere - very modern, cool lighting fixtures and dim lights make it casual yet chic. Definitely fitting for a business meeting, but also suitable for friends/family get togethers. Restaurant was really chilly though.... Food- above average. I got a chicken chopped salad which was pretty good and my friend got the Irish burger which he enjoyed. Nothing mindblowing but it was decent and filling. Price- eh... I'd say it's a bit overpriced. A burger and fries, and a salad for $15 each?... But hey it's a business-y place so it's expected. Service- great. Food arrived really quickly and waiters checked in on us a couple of times. My friend actually noted that they really cared about our welfare! Overall it was a good experience and I'll prob be back especially because the location is so convenient.

My boyfriend and I were in town to celebrate our 2 year anniversary and wanted to go somewhere nice (by not NYC hundreds of dollars for a meal for 2 nice). Luckily we used Yelp- thanks YELPERS!- and we couldn't be MORE pleased!! The ambiance of this place is modern, without being so modern I feel like I'm on another planet! The LED lighting provided a nice soft light effect on the mostly white walls. It was not so dark you couldn't see your hand in front of your fact, but not so light that you felt like you were in a hospital. It was, the perfect blend! Casual yet chic! The wait staff was extremely helpful in making our selections, and was attentive, but not "up your ass" attentive. But let's get to the real deal- the food. I have pretty unique food allergies (not your standard nuts, etc.), so it's very important for me that the staff knows what is in the food, and can direct me if I order something I shouldn't. I never want a night out to be ruined by anaphylaxis. The staff here was well informed and provided good answers. The menu was varied enough that I, and my date, could each order a unique meal that went with our wine selection (Speaking of wine... the Rose was a little dryer than a typical Rose... not bad- just not what I was expecting). The food came out hot, and reasonably quickly, and every single ingredient was incredibly fresh! You can taste the difference. I had the rigatoni and he had the steak. Both of us raved about the food, and we had our leftovers the next day for breakfast (why not?) and it was still delicious! Well done, we will DEFINITELY come back the next time we are in town!

Free cocktails from Affinia hotel deal? Delayed flight? Exhausted from exploring NYC? Perfect time for the bar at Niles. Prosciutto, Avocado + Duck Roll (with a chili apricot jam and black olive vinaigrette) had lots of potential to be great but was served too cold. If you like a little heat, the jalapeno margarita is good, as was the blood orange mojito My favorite part of Niles were their colorful convex light fixtures!

There are so few places to eat around the madison square garden are that are no fast food. Niles was recommended by a friend whose relatives were coming into Penn Station from Philly for the afternoon. I was seated immediately and ordered coffee and the crispy chicken salad for lunch. There is a bar and sitting area as you walk in and further back there is additional seating. It is part of the Affinia hotel. I enjoyed the meal, would recommend and return.

Very pretty place, good bar scene, super convenient location to Penn Station and MSG. Our server was super-nice efficient. The owner even dropped by to say hello and bought us a round of drinks. A really good bread and bread flat basket--very important to me. So far it's sounding like a 5. So what happened? Well, I had the Chilean Sea Bass it was was pretty bad. It was a pretty looking dish in an orange colored sauce. But looks weren't everything. The sauce was tasteless and the sea bass tasted very "fishy". The lobster ravioli did have a hint of the vanilla bean reduction stated on the menu but also didn't taste like much. I did start with a very hearty and tasty onion soup. Everyone else who didn't order the sea bass, we were a party of 13, seemed OK with their food. Barbara also had the sea bass and agreed with me. Based on paragraphs 1 & 2, I 'd go back again but would stick to a less complex dish.

Love the convenience to the garden on such a cold night!! The drinks were fabulous and the food was great !! Pretzel honey chicken was divine, hubby had sea bass and son had steak... Delicious. I needed to grab the Bolt Bus to DC which leaves from 33rd and 7th but was meeting a friend for lunch beforehand and we settled on Niles. Did I already say delicious? Delicious. I had the gazpacho (almost as fun to order as salsa) and the vegetable panini. I was so pleased with the quality of the ingredients, presentation, speed with which we were served, and price point. Met family member staying at the Affinia Manhattan for dinner at Niles. Bar noise level was like going down Niagara Falls in a tin barrel. Restaurant was better. Lots of white walls theatrically lit with colored lights. Crummy men's room. Service was good. Drinks were good, but seemed downsized. Food was hit and miss. Bucatini pasta with unchewable prosciutto pieces. Good rigatoni with tomato sauce. Good seafood pasta with big shrimp. Strange squash ravioli topped with pretzel pieces (no joke). Good desserts. Would I go back? Lets just say If you are staying at the Affinia you cant beat the convenient location.

The Niles has a nice atmosphere and the food is good not great. We have ordered room service and have enjoyed the breakfast and lunch entrees. I would only eat here if my driver was not available and/or it was raining. There are many restaurants in the city that are better. This is a great bar scene though. The restaurant is downstairs and the bar is upstairs.

DISGUSTED! I often dine here but a few days ago, I sat at the bar and while waiting for my food to be delivered, I observed Conor (name printed on my receipt), the bartender scratch the back of his head, dab his eyes with his fingers, wipe the sweat off his forehead, run his hands across his mouth and nose AND pick his ears (YES, you heard me...he picked the outside and the inside of his ears). Totally disgusting. I don't think he was aware of his bad habits. I wonder now what hygiene habits they practice in the kitchen. It is amazing to me that the managers are not aware of this. They need to train the staff better. All it takes is a bit of observation!

Breakfast this morning. They have a choice of a buffet for $20 or order off the menu. Buffet looked good but ordinary whereas the menu had some great omlettes and other choices. Went with the menu and had the Smoked Salmon platter. It was fresh and a generous portion of the Salmon. Good coffee and they leave the pot on your table so you don't have to wait for refills.

We were looking for a nice restaurant in close proximity to MSG and Penn Station. Niles fit the bill! Niles has a very nice bar scene, cool decor, nice dining room separated by a short staircase from the bar and simple menu with plenty of variety. Service was terrific and they let us sit at our table for hours without bothering us or trying to push us out. We had a variety of salads, onion soup and risotto and all were wonderful.

I come here for a breakfast work meeting once a month. I usually get an egg white omlette, which I had today and was very good. Since I've been coming here one of the highlights of the breakfast was the home potatoes on the side. So much so it was a topic for everyone who came to that meeting. Well today out came our plates and guess what was not on them? You got it, the delicious home fries. In their place was what seemed like what were previously frozen shredded hash browns. Too boot they were dry. Why oh why did you change the home potatoes Niles? Our table even joked that we may need to take our monthly breakfast elsewhere since the potatoes were gone. In addition, our service was not on par. I had to ask multiple times for refills on my water and coffee. Definitely a breakfast no-no Niles!

3.5 stars. I'm only taking stars off for the bad lighting during lunch! So the place is SO dimly lit and the blue neon lights just dont go with the vibe they are trying to create. I think they definitely need to up the ambience. The food however was greattt. Brought my client to Niles for lunch - we were immediately impressed by the decor. Service was very responsive and all the food that was brought to other tables looked great and smelled great. After perusing the menu, we both settled on the crab-stuffed shrimp. Neither of us were disappointed! When the dishes came out, my client pulled out her cell phone to take a picture - explaining that she was a food blogger. I relayed to her that my weapon of choice was Yelp and she nodded in acknowledgement. Portions were generous and the price is very reasonable. My dish came with four large shrimp stuffed with very savory crab filling. The dish also came with baby brocolli and a unique red grain rice pilaf. The tangy vanilla bean reduction offered a very interesting contrast to the traditional crab stuffing. Gotta say, the pilaf was delicious but not ideal in a meeting situation. We both struggled to speak between bites because the tiny red grain was getting stuck between our teeth. We finished off the meal with coffee, shook hands and left satisfied. A productive meeting and a satisfying meal. I'll try coming back with a more casual mindset but Niles is definitely a place I'd revisit.

I feel like I have been on the road forever. I had dinner here tonight and it seemed strange without the Big East Tournament crowd. The vibrant bar was a little slow on this Mother's Day evening. I ate here last night with my girlfriend and brother. We had a 10pm reservation but arrived at 930 and we were seated immediately. The restaurant's decor was very pretty; it was all white with up-lighting around the room. For an appetizer we shared the sea scallops and the margarita pizza. I ate the pretzel-crusted chicken, which was very good. My girlfriend had the Chilean sea bass that she enjoyed. My brother had the filet and it was cooked perfect. We shared the gelato sampler and the chocolate nut torta for desert. The wait staff was very attentive and was always ready to help. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed the dinner and would definitely be going back.

You will pass this spot if you aren't really looking for it...only has a small sign hanging.... We stopped in her for quick bite before heading to MSG and it's actually a decent spot. I wished we could've stayed longer but we were pressed for time. I ordered the crab cakes, which were yummy. Servers were nice and worked w/ us regarding time w/ no issues. Other meals at the table were burger and fries, salad, etc...friends said it was pretty good. The plate/serving was huge, so it looks like they give you more than enough food. Fun posh New York restaurant/bar. Everything is very white, and lit up in purple and pink. I didn't eat here, just passed through the dining room on my way to the ladies room. A modern and sleek place to dine in midtown. We arrived for lunch and were seated in the back of the restaurant. The place was just about at capacity and there was an energetic vibe. Our waiter showed up immediately to take drink orders. Our orders were taken and I decided to add a salad to my order, somehow they ended up swapping my actual order for the salad, so I didn't get my salad with everyone else and got my entree after everyone else. It was a bit annoying. Two of us ordered burgers. The burgers were fairly large in size and were served with a large portion of nice crispy fries. The burgers were good, but definitely not the best in the city. Someone else got the Stuffed Jumbo Gulf Shrimp that came with a side of red grain pilaf. I was told the dish was quite bland. The fourth entree was the Almond-Crusted Chicken with a honey mustard glaze, sugar snap peas and sweet potato cakes; which was very good. On to dessert. Their coffee was decent a regular coffee is served in a little pot so you actually get 2 cups served at once, which I thought was great. I opted for the double chocolate bundt cake. It was a dark chocolate spongy type bundt that was covered with hot fudge. Yum! Really good, I was so full and it was hard to stop eating it. Other desserts included Ciao Bella gelato, which is always good; creme brulee cheesecake which I was told was great and a chocolate mousse, which was just OK. There were some hit and miss dishes, but overall I think you can have a somewhat enjoyable lunch, especially if you are looking for someplace with a modern flair in the area.

Not a great experience. The place was freezing and we were NOT sitting near doors; our breakfast took over 20 minutes and the place only had a few other customers; we were not given a bread basket, only realized later they gave them to everyone but us; the waiter was not attentive and we had to flag down for more drinks; the french toast was very dry (like toast) and was not served with butter, so had to request; and the food was a bit cold. However, the fries were pretty good and it was a nice roomy restaurant. I should have gone to Panera across the street and saved $$$ on breakfast.

Directly across 7th Ave from Madison Square Garden, Nile's is an upscale and visually attractive after work gathering spot. Their beer selection is a bit limited, but they're always cold. A full menu is available, breakfast, lunch and dinner, but the onion soup on a cold night and small plates are very good. Their bar pizza is clearly a notch above, and the dates wrapped in prosciutto is an excellent nibble. Nile's begins filling-up by 5:30, and can be shoulder-to-shoulder packed a few minutes later. Noise levels can get high, as well. The bartenders are definitely friendly and efficient. A fun stop before catching a train or a game across the street.

Two weeks into my current job (5 years ago), a group of then unmarried, kidless colleagues, who I'm pretty sure should have been paying rent at Niles, took me with them one night. To sum up, after that night I swore off shots FOREVER. I vaguely remember being driven home (thank GOD). Other than that, my recollection of the night is hazy. That group has since dispersed to the far reaches of Connecticut and Westchester, popped out some kids, and stopped going out regularly. (Note: I, for one, am still up for it. Just FYI, FWIW.) Niles remains the go-to place on the rare occasion when coworkers do grab a quick one before rushing home, mainly because they are unwilling to stray too far from Penn Station. The beer selection is fine if you're okay with Bass, Stella and Amstel Light. If that does not constitute a good beer selection in your book, you should probably go to Stout's instead (2 blocks away). The red wine is not too bad and the bartenders often give a generous pour. So, after reading all that, you probably have a picture in your head what this place is like. Well, the thing is, during the day, Niles is a completely different animal. You wouldn't even recognize it. The bar and dining area are a business lunch mecca. I have seen senior execs from my company with clients in there at lunchtime, dudes who would never, ever be seen there at happy hour with the proles. My mother, who is 71 and who comes to NYC once a quarter on business with the Garden Club of America, requests that we lunch at Niles every single time she's here. She adores it! And as far as I've been able to surmise, Niles is truly the best bet for taking your 71-year-old mother to lunch in this neighborhood. Just get her out of there before happy hour begins.

The restaurant associated with the Affinia Manhattan hotel that we stayed at, this place was quite good. For dinner, we were quite full from a late lunch, so we came here and sat at the bar. The restaurant had a cool blue lighting for the decor. I got a champagne mix with chambord, and they were certainly not stingy with that! The champagne itself was not so great, but I do enjoy chambord, so that was good. The crabcake we ordered was not bad. It could do with larger chunks of crab. The salad it came with was well coated with a good dressing. We came again in the morning for the breakfast buffet, which was quite good! The fruit selection was nice, and tasty, but none of the fruits were in season.

Definitely a busy spot. There's a lot of people stopping by after work grabbing a drink at the very large bar. Its not far from Penn station , actually its right across the street so I suppose a busy scene is expected. Great food, phenomenal drinks, wonderful people. I definitely made this a regular spot. Its also nice for first dates and brunches. The scallops are PHENOMENAL in my opinion and that bartender (I forgot his name) is a total drink mixing GOD! LOL!

I needed a place to take my family when they came to visit. It needed to be close to Penn Station, and since I was treating, it couldn't cost an arm and a leg! Niles looks just like a bar from the street (right on 7th ave), but it's got a great restaurant behind the bar. We went for brunch on a Saturday around 1PM, and had no problem being seated right away. The wait staff was very friendly and attentive. Our party got everything from french toast (crusted with granola, yum!), to a burger to omelettes and everyone was very happy with it. The complimentary mimosas were most appreciated as well. The decor was casual and relaxing, but still nice enough to feel fancy. The brunch ended up costing us less than $100 for six people, and that included a nice tip for the great service. I would definitely recommend Niles to anyone looking to go to a nice place in the area, whether for just a drink or for a whole meal.

I enjoyed Niles and it's proximity to Madison Sq Garden is fantastic. I had a Jalapeno Margarita (spicy and good). I ordered the grilled sea bass w/roasted brussel sprouts and mashed potato and it was excellent. The brussel sprouts were a bit over seasoned but it balanced w/the meal. My friend ordered the red snapper and said it was excellent. Again, it has a great ambiance for a date at the back tables, or the bar is great to meet up with friends after work. They have a side round room big enough for 10-12 people with caricatures of all of the NYC Mayors. Cool place right next to the Affinia Hotel.

I've been here several times on business lunches. I have never been disappointed. The location is very convenient to Penn Station and a large step above other lunch spots in the area. The service is attentive, courteous and knowledgable. The food is well prepared and presented. The portions are generous and the price is right. This is not a dark, manly steak house or pub but for good food at a fair price this the place.

Dined here for a business lunch. Was impressed by the clean/simple decor, and there was no issue with lighting. I thought it was very bright and white, and surprisingly large with a nice big bar. I ordered a shrimp entree salad that was very boring and lacked flavor. The associates I was dining with enjoyed their meals enough. Service was fine. It was very quick, and overall, the dining expererience was just boring. We were in and out within an hour, so it seems to be a good work lunch spot. If you have to dine in this area, I would recommend you give it a try. Maybe other items on the menu are more interesting. It is not a place I would go out of my way to go to, though.

Niles NYC is the restaurant/bar/lounge on the ground floor of the Affinia Manhattan, and I entertained here two of the four nights I stayed there last fall. Review of the hotel can be found separately... Let's talk Manhattan Martinis. Have you found any GREAT LOCATIONS with a FABULOUS ATMOSPHERE and GORGEOUS FOOD offering MARTINIS for UNDER $10??? Well here, they are nearly all under $10 somehow. And let me tell you, they make a KILLER Cosmo. I also sampled a lovely bellini with champagne, peach schnapps and blood orange puree that was like no other drink I have had since. INCLUDING fabulous Bellinis all over Italy and France. Tried the bar snack pizzas - both were yummy! Ther Margherita with just tomatoes & basil was simple but perfectly prepared & presented. Even better was the Rustic Pizza: "artichokes, roasted tomatoes, kalamata olives and caramelized onions on rustic crust" - it was crispy, flavourful, perfect late-night snack! Went for lunch only once, but I tried: the Mesclun Salad: "grape tomatoes, edamame, cucumbers, pepitas and crispy onions with lemon herb vinaigrette" and the lobster bisque. Again, not disappointed! I would visit here again, regardless of which hotel I'm staying at!

I want to like this place with the late 90's south beach decor. This for me has always been a go-to when seeing a concert at the garden however this last trip here left me very disapointed! The meal was started with an oaky chardone. For appitizers we ordered two french ounion soups and a margharita pizza. The soups were "ok", nothing special. The pizza which should have been called a bar pie, Not a margharitta was dry and boring. For our entrees we ordreed the lamb and the filet mignon. The Lamb was fatty and tough, The filet Mignon although cooked prefect was Medium Rare and Dry at the same time. For desert I ordered the Lemon marscapone cake and my parner ordred the creme brule cheese cake. Deserts were great! Overall, not worth the money. I think I will save Niles for Pre-drinks before going to the Garden and have dinner elsewhere.

Needed a new brunch place before I dropped off my nephew at Penn Station and remembered reading about Niles! Popped in today and must admit that we had a great dining experience. The decor is also very modern and the dining room is a nice size, with the tables not being on top of each other. We were seated right away, and our waiter Luis appeared within minutes to take our drink orders. My nephew ordered the french toast and said it was the best french toast he's ever had. I ordered the eggs benedict with Canadian bacon which was also delicious, along with little squared potatoes. Prices were very reasonable. Our waiter Luis was great and very attentive. I will definitely return and am looking forward to trying out the Niles bar next before the Furthur show in November at MSG! :)

The lobster Appetizer is superb. It was so tasty. My sea bass was cooked to perfection. Everything was fantastic but our waiter. He was surly.

Niles is directly next door to the main entrance of the Affinia Hotel. First impression: GORGEOUS bar. I can't believe I haven't been to this place sooner being so close to my office. My co-workers and I are always looking for a new place to sit down and grab lunch. Niles is huge and sleek, yet cozy. The restaurant can accommodate large or small groups and they also have private areas tucked to the side. The front is the gorgeous bar. Everything is white and clean with floral accents on the walls and cool paintings and pictures on the wall. They offer seating at the bar or small tables on the sides. When you continue to the back, it's a large seating area with large tables and small tables. It's a great change from the Irish pub spots in the area that we are used to visiting at lunchtime. The prices were ridiculously affordable. They bring out a bread basket with an assorted variety of breads. I had a glass of Sauv Blanc and the Grilled Vegetable Panini (marinated eggplant, zucchini, portobello mushroom, arugula, mozz, tomato pesto spread on wheat berry bread- $13). It comes with your choice of fries, sweet potato fries or salad. My friend had Roast Turkey Club with fries- $12 and a glass of red wine. Her club had a little tiny piece of bacon, which was kind of disappointing. They have five entree salad choices and four other sandwich choices. Also for lunch, there's five different kinds of burgers or two different pizzas. If you're really hungry then they offer a bunch of entrees that range from pasta and seafood dishes as well as steaks. Awesome variety and great prices. I can really see this place getting packed out before events at MSG or people killing time before their trains at Penn Station. I will absolutely return.
